Recovery

Recovery is actually one of the most important factors in optimal fitness and physical
health. Recovery always seems to be overlooked or neglected when it comes to a proper fitness program or getting the results you desire. Recovery is important for staying injury free, engaging in long-term consistent training, adapting to training, achieving your goals, becoming more resilent and optimizing your performance.

Elite Athletics offer multiple recovery services to help you recover better, faster and more efficiently.

Massage Therapy

When your body has chronic tightness and tension or an area with a history of injury or overuse, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that form in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in that area. These adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, inflammation and limited mobility.

This is where deep tissue work comes in. It is simply the act of physically breaking down these adhesions, usually with direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. At the same time that adhesions are broken down by deep tissue work, blood and lymph flow to the affected area is enhanced.

Percussion Therapy

Percussive (also called percussion) massage uses rapid and repetitive pressure combined with vibration therapy. The massage head moves quickly and forcefully, applying pressure directly to your soft tissue, while the vibrations engage the outer layer of skin. The primary tool used to deliver this treatment is the massage gun, which helps to release tight knots—the primary culprits for back and shoulder pain.

When the massage gun is applied, the massage head pounds away rhythmically at the targeted muscle. While this might sound uncomfortable on paper, the effect is actually the opposite. What’s more, it reaches deeper than foam rollers or human hands can, which is great for those who have tight tense knots deep within the layers of muscles and fascia.

Percussive therapy is for anyone who has an active lifestyle—professional athletes, CrossFitters, gym buffs, and people who want to push themselves beyond their limit by recovering fast.

Infrared Sauna

Traditional Finnish saunas work by heating the air, which means the air temperature has to reach somewhere between 150 and 185 degrees for the body to start sweating. Instead, infrared saunas use infrared lamps (that use electromagnetic radiation) to warm your body directly, requiring a much lower temperature, closer to 140 degrees. That means you can stay in an infrared sauna much longer and, according to believers, reap more detoxifying benefits. Also, unlike traditional wet-dry sauna heat, infrared heat travels below the surface of the skin as far as 3 centimeters, which is why proponents say that it can actually heal inflammation deep inside the body. The benefits of using an infrared sauna are similar to those experienced with a traditional sauna.

There’s nothing quite like a 20-minute sweat session in a sauna. You feel more relaxed and rested after you’re done, and the heat helps relieve sore muscles and improves your overall health and well-being.

But if the high temperatures of a traditional sauna are just too much for you to handle, an infrared sauna may offer the benefits of a sauna without the extreme heat.
